Siobhán Barbour
Counsellor
Hi, I’m Siobhán, and I’m a therapeutic counsellor. I’m a registered member of the BACP, and an accredited member of the NCPS.
I work integratively, which just means that my training has embraced multiple therapeutic approaches - these include person-centred counselling, cognitive behavioural therapy, psychodynamic theory, and some somatic (body-based) techniques. This allows me to adapt the approach in collaboration with you, based on your specific needs and what resonates most.
The two threads that run through my practice are curiosity and compassion, and hope that whatever you’d like to explore, I can help you to foster more of both.
My experience of working in a sexual health setting has helped me to develop a practice which is sex-positive, LGBTQIA+ affirmative, and welcoming of neurodiversity. I’m also well-acquianted with alternative relationship styles (non-monogamy, polyamory, open relationships, etc.) and kink / BDSM practices. I know that it’s not always easy to broach these topics with a care provider, but I also recognise how important it is to feel like you can bring your whole self into a therapeutic process.
I worked in stage production roles for 15 years before retraining as a counsellor, so I have direct experience of working in the creative industries, including the demands of touring. If you’re from a similar background and feel you might benefit from a provider with that insight, then feel free to get in touch.
I believe that good 'fit' in the therapeutic relationship is one of the most important components in this work, so I can offer an intial chat (via video call) to give you the opportunity to ask any questions and help you decide if I'm the right counsellor for you.
